Paul obtained his medical degree from the University of Melbourne and underwent endocrine training in Sydney. He completed his doctoral studies on adrenergic control of metabolism, under the supervision of Ken Ho and Jerry Greenfield, at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. During 2012-2014, Paul worked as a NHMRC Neil Hamilton Fairley Clinical Fellow in Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Obesity Branch in NIDDK at the National Institutes of Health in the United States. He spent the majority of his time pondering over brown fat modulatory strategies, both within and outside the laboratory. As a clinician endocrine scientist, Paul has a strong interest in adrenal and fat metabolism. His current research focuses on brown fat endocrine function. The goal is to determine the physiologic role and therapeutic potential of brown fat in health and disease.
