Professor Karin Jandeleit-Dahm is clinician scientist who has been involved in cardiovascular research in the area of diabetes, hypertension and renal disease for more than 15 years. She is am currently the Program Head of the Diabetes Complications Program at Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and leads her own laboratory “Diabetes and Kidney Disease”. She holds appointments as Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Monash University and with the University of Hannover, Germany.
Her research areas focus on vascular complications in diabetes including diabetes associated micro-and macrovasuclar complications. She has developed and published on new models of diabetes- associated accelerated atherosclerosis and renal disease and aims to identify new targets to better treat and prevent vascular complications in diabetes. Recently, she has published on the role of Nox derived ROS formation in atherosclerosis and in the kidney. This is an ongoing are of research with access to unique knockout and knockin mice as well as novel pharmacological inhibitors. Indeed, she is actively involved in clinical translation of one of the novel on of the Nox inhibitors.
